The path abruptly turns south-east from Second Cave in the direction of Mawenzi’s ragged top. When navigating broad moorland, you come upon Kikelewa Camp, which is surrounded by a few caves and the Kikelewa River, as well as enormous groundsels and lobelias that are thriving close. From Kikelewa Camp, the views begin to open up, and you can see for yourself just how enormous Mount Kilimanjaro is.

Although though the distance from here to Mawenzi Tarn is just about 4-5 kilometres, this stage is typically finished in the morning. As you approach 660m, the ascent becomes steeper and the trail loses more and more of the moor vegetation. In one of the most breathtaking locations, in a cirque underneath a Mawenzi’s sharp teeth, is the Mawenzi Tarn Hut. For improved acclimatization, we provide you with another hike up the western ridge in the afternoon. Get stunning views of Kibo if the sky isn’t cloudy and you’re fortunate.

This magnificent day starts with a short backtracking before you set out westward, crossing the hill and descending the hillside to tiptoe all along northern border of the gorgeous bare Saddle. This day becomes the most favored day for climbing the mountain because of the screensaver-like views to the east and west. Today, we will travel to Kibo Camping, which once more provides a breathtaking view of the Kibo. You will receive a cooked meal when we get to the camp fairly early. Our guides would provide you a last briefing in the afternoon to get you ready for the summit journey. It’s time to unwind, double-check, and have your gear and equipment ready. In order to allow you plenty of relaxation and sleep, the meal will begin fairly early. The three pillars of a successful summit are a healthy diet, plenty of hydration, and sleep. To be well-rested for your hot wake-up beverage at 11:30 p.m, we urge you to go to sleep before 7 p.m.
6- to 8-hour hike
Altitude at Night: 15,430′
You’ll be awakened about midnight, giving you just enough time to grab a quick meal before venturing into the dark night. The rough landscape, where the trail is strewn with loose stones, is generally regarded as the most difficult part of the ascent. The objective is to reach Gilman’s Point prior to sunrise so that you can reach Uhuru Peak, Kibo’s highest peak, right after sunrise. Before proceeding along the crater rim to Uhuru, you will make a quick halt at Gilman’s Point to take in the breathtaking scenery. The final section of the ascent has a constant gradient.
Your final destination, Uhuru Peak, the summit of Kilimanjaro as well as the highest peak in Africa, may experience snow depending on the time of year. Once you’ve reached the peak, which is located at a height of 5,895 masl, you can congratulate yourself, take in the breathtaking scenery, and have your photo taken next to Uhuru Peak symbol as a reminder of your success.
The descending to Kibo Huts may now begin, and you’ll see that it goes by surprisingly swiftly. You will stop for a well-earned lunch in Kibo Huts before moving onto the Horombo Huts, in which a much-needed night’s rest is waiting.
